From June 23 till July 2, 6 adoptive families totaling 26 from the United States just had a pleasant root-seeking tour in China. The adopted children who came to China for the root-seeking tour this time were mainly from the three welfare institutes of Nanchang, Jiujiang and Fuzhou of Jiangxi Province and were mostly aged between 6 and 10 years.

This root-seeking activity started in Beijing. Under the arrangement of BLAS, the 6 adoptive families firstly visited the working area of CCAA and learnt the international adoption process of China. Secondly, they took part in the two refreshing Chinese culture classes specially organized by BLAS. In the geography class, the staff members, through the interaction games, vividly introduced the lay of the land in China to the children, guided them drawing the map of China and then marking the locations of their hometowns. During the calligraphy class, the staff members told about the historical origin and the evolving process of Chinese characters to the children through the vivid PPT pictures and with great patience, they taught the children to write down the Chinese characters “Fu” (Happiness) and “Ai” (Love) with the writing brushes. In addition, accompanied by the guides of BLAS the adoptive families together went to visit many historical spots including the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, etc. and also they climbed onto the Great Wall, personally experiencing the grandness and brilliantness of the rivers and mountains in their homeland and feeling the sense of “holding all mountains in a single glance”.

On June 28, the 6 adoptive families went back to the hometown of the children-Jiangxi Province and took part in the root-seeking activities organized locally. On the evening of the same day, the Adoption Registration Center of Jiangxi Province dined them, welcoming the adopted children to “come back to their original home”. Director of Adoption Service Center of Jiangxi Province Fu Yuechan just gave a welcome speech to the adoptive families where he spoke highly of the love the adoptive parents had given to the orphaned and disabled children in China. He also presented to the adoptive families the special local artwork in Jiangxi –Jingdezhen porcelain. On June 29, the 6 adoptive families respectively went to the three institutes including Nanchang, Jiujiang and Fuzhou to take part in the activities. They received the warm welcome from both staff members and the children in the institutes. They, together, recalled the childhood anecdotes of the children and shared the joy the reunion had brought. The welfare institutes even arranged an affection meeting especially for the adoptive families and the caretakers and also organized an interaction game between the children in the institutes and the adopted children. At the departure, the adoptive families and the staff members in the institutes both demonstrated their reluctance to part and they just made an agreement on often coming back home in the future.
